Say Goodbye to Your Dry Skin
Welcome back lovelies,
Thanks for tuning in. Today I wanted to do a little run through for people on dealing with their dry skin. I myself suffer with psoriasis all over my body and on the edges of my face so I am constantly prone to that dryness. However, I have always had phases with very dry skin. At the moment my skin is a little more on the oily side as it always is in the summer but in the winter time or after a bad breakout my skin can be left chapped and feeling very tight.
A large number of the products that I use to clear up and treat my acne are so filled with active ingredients and drying agents so it can leave your skin feeling extremely parched, which if left untreated will actually cause more acne as your skin will produce excess oils to deal with the dryness and it will leave you with an ongoing battle. So here are my top tips for combatting dry skin.
As always nothing in this post is sponsored and it was all purchased with my own money. I have included another little video tutorial today as I feel it just explains the products in a different way to the blog post so I will include it at here:
So I have an in detail breakdown of the products used here with a description of why I have used them and why I like them and how you should use them.
Firstly I used the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm which all of my OG's here will know is a staple in my routine. It is brilliant for literally just melting your makeup off of your face so easily without stripping your skin of its natural oils, which is great especially when your skin is already dry. But I would always follow up from this with another cleanser as you should always double cleanse your skin anyways, but more importantly you don't want to leave a little bit of an oil residue on your skin.
I then used the Cera Ve Hydrating Cleanser I love this cleanser as it leaves your skin feeling really clean without leaving your face feeling tight and dry. I love a lot of Cera Ve's products as they are really clean and really affordable so I would think that this one is a great addition to anyones skincare routine, not just my dry skin gang.
To clean the cleanser off of my face I use the Bioderma Micellar Water for Sensitive Skin. This step is not an essential step my any means but I like to use it as a sort of toner. You can skip this step if you want but I just feel that it rebalances my skin after the cleansers therefore I always do it.
My next step which is one of my favourite products and I have repurchased this over and over again it is The Alpha H Liquid Gold Glycolic Acid Exfoliator. This is a chemical exfoliator and is a glycolic acid solution which is known to be the best way to exfoliate your skin as it reacts with the top layer of the skin breaking down the dead skin cells and sebum by dissolving it and allowing your other products to penetrate deeper and more effectively leaving you with a fresher and brighter complexion.
I follow this with Skingredients Skin Veg 02. This is a pre serum that is great for allowing your next products to soak into your skin even better. This serum is filled with hylauronic acid which is THE ULTIMATE ingredient for skin hydration. It is also filled with peptides that boost hydration and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles which is also a huge bonus. This product is always a staple in my routine however it is not absolutely essential.
Drunk Elephant's Hydra B Intensive Hydration serum is the probably one of the most hydrating serums that I have ever tried. It is a little on the pricey side of things, however, it is so worth it. I honestly always believe that if you are going to splurge on anything in your routine you should splurge on your serum as they are filled with so many great ingredients that are able to penetrate your skin much easier and much deeper due to their lightweight consistency. If you are suffering with very dry skin I think this product is really going to save your bacon, so I would say if you're going to pick up anything in this article this would probably be one of the main things I would recommend. Another little tip that I have about serums is apply them to your face when your face is damp as it will help them to penetrate deeper into your skin.
Aquaphor is the such a great item to have in your kit. It is cheap and can be used for just about anything. I love to use it on my lips and chapped elbows and knees and I also love using it on my hands and cuticles. It does have a vaseline like texture though so its more of a night time kind of product but I would absolutely recommend it.
I have tried a bucket load of moisturisers at this stage for dealing with dry skin but this is one of my all time favourites. It is so quenching to your skin and provides so much hydration. It leaves your skin feeling plumped and nourished. This can also be used on the body too so you're getting a two for one deal here really if you buy this product. First Aid Beauty's Ultra Repair Cream really has hit the nail on the head here with its formula as it doesn't leave you feeling oily or as if you have a film on your skin.
Finally, in this routine I use Sunday Riley's UFO Ulta Clarifying Face Oil. Face oils to me are not an essential if I am honest, however if your skin is parched there is no harm in adding one in at the end. They are nice to lock on the moisture to your skin and all of the other products you have used. I like this one as there are some nice ingredients to help me with my acne, but most face oils will work just fine if you want to use one.
An honourable mention of two of my favourite hydrating masks I also inclduded in the video. The Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask is one that I but everytime I run out of it. You can use it as a moisturiser, you can sleep in it, you can wash it off after 10 minutes if you want to. This mask is just so versatile and hydrating. I usually will skip a face oil and if my skin is quite dry I'll use this mask before I go to bed a couple of nights a week and I sleep in it and wash it off in the morning. It is absolutely worth the money. It feels so soothing on your skin. I included also the Alex Steinherr by Primark too which is a bit of a dupe for the Summer Fridays mask. It leaves my skin very hydrated, I sometimes wake up a little oily after using it but after I cleanse my face my skin feels incredible. So that is a great bargain option too.
