Beginners Guide to Clearing your Skin
Welcome back lovelies,
I hope everyone is keeping well and trying to make the most out of this free time that we have during this quarantine. I thought I would come on here and give everyone a little guide to the horrors of dealing with a quarantine breakout. So if you have a couple of minutes before a zoom quiz call or even just a second in between fighting with your family, take some time out to practice some self care.
Just to give a bit of back story, my skin over the past year has been up and down if I am honest, but I am pretty much completely to blame for that because there have also been times that I have been really inconsistent with my skincare routine and was being quite lazy. My skin overall has been doing so much better, after working with the Skin Nerd and using a lot of her products I was really doing a lot better with my skin and being in the sun last summer really improved things for me too but since December things have been up and down skinwise again. There is a bit of a long story as to why my skin flared up again but I'll go into that in another blog post. But since Christmas it has improved significantly.
At the beginning of this Quarantine, my breakouts were pretty bad I'm not going to lie. I was really frustrated because I wasn't really wearing any makeup and yet my skin looked worse then it did when I was wearing makeup everyday a few weeks prior. I was looking through my camera roll trying to find if I had any pictures of it but I couldn't find any recent ones however I have included a little video about my skin updates today which you will see below.
I basically wanted to come on here and just give everyone a little guide about how to get your basic skincare routine to a great level. it has taken me almost two years to figure out a routine that really works for my skin, I have tried (and I'm not exaggerating) 100's of products trying to sort out my face. (I already thought of a paper bag before anyone chimes in.)
I think having a really great routine is just so important and being as consistent as you can makes such a huge difference. When figuring out what works for your skin you have to be vigilant when examining the differences in your skin after introducing new products.
I have made a quick video just showing everyone exactly where my skin is at and also giving a little tutorial on my morning skincare routine for treating my acne. I'm just going to talk you through the products I'm using in the video in my detail and why I use them.
Firstly, I start off using my Clear Cell face wash by Image skin care. This cleanser is brilliant for fighting acne as it contains salicylic acid, which treats spots and gently exfoliates the skin leaving your skin less red. This cleanser is quite strong so if my skin is in a flare up I use it everyday but then I completely cut back and use it every other day or a couple of times a week when my skin is not as inflamed.
Next up I use the Avene MAT mattifying toner. This product is great in treating acne as it tightens pores and regulates the production of sebum (oil) in your skin. I also really like it because I don’t find it harsh on my skin it feels very gentle and soothing.
I follow up using Skin Veg by Skingredients. This step is not a crucial step, however I have seen a big change in my skin since using this product. It is full of nourishing ingredients to help your skin heal and also absorb your other products in to your skin. It’s full of hylauronic acid which is the best thing for moisturising your skin. It leaves me with a lovely glow too.
The next step I do, is what I consider to be the most important part of a skincare routine which is serum. I think that is where you should splurge in your routine. Serums are great for being filled with active ingredients that really treat your skin properly! I love this one by Skingredients called Skin Protein, it’s filled with vitamins A, C & E. vitamin A is where retinol comes from and will be key in fighting your acne, it also helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C is hydrating and will give a glow to your skin and help improve skins general appearance and Vitamin E is so nourishing and full of antioxidants. So why wouldn’t you want to use this on your skin? 😏

I know everyone’s going to be thinking why don’t I just use the AM one during the day, but the truth is I don’t really like the AM one. I have it too but it has SPF in it and I just don’t love that formula as it feels a lot thicker on my skin. This formula is so lightweight and full of hylauronic acid and ceramides and it just feels so lovely! https://tinyurl.com/y7uhaga6
Finally, I used the Murad City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50. This is one of the nicest SPF’s that I have ever tried. It’s so lovely and lightweight and doesn’t give you a big white face like a lot of sun creams will. This gives you a lovely glow to your skin. https://tinyurl.com/y9y43swj
