This Ones For the Girls.
Happy International Women's Day to everyone!!
I absolutely LOVE that today is International Women's Day because I think it is so good to reflect on the impact that the women in your life have had on you. I am the luckiest girl in the world to be surrounded by so many amazing women every single day. So this post is dedicated to all of the amazing women out there especially the ones in my life. This is a lot soppier than any of my usual posts and I promise I will be back to all things beauty next week, but this weeks post is about appreciating a different type of beauty. The beauty within us and our society. This one is for the women!
To be a woman can mean so much to so many, for me particularly there is so much pride attached to being a woman. Women have always been considered a second class citizen next to their male counterpart throughout history and in some parts of the world they are still seen as such. I am lucky enough to live in a part of the world where I have a voice, a voice that can be heard. I am also not naive to the fact that this is not the case all over the world. For my generation particularly, we must understand that the woman who came before us have had to fight for everything they have ever had and we must continue their battles to ensure that women all over the world are treated fairly and equally to our male counterparts. People often think that being a feminist is so aggressive, but I don't think that it has to be seen that way, I think we should all be feminists... to be a feminist does not mean that you have to think women are better than men, that is not the case at all it just means to respect women and to believe that they're equal to men.
I have been so lucky with the support that I have received all around the board but mainly by women. I am one of those girls that has been spoiled for choice with the strong women in my life. I have been surrounded with the fiercest of women since the moment I was born. I come from two families that are very different in many ways but the one thing they share is how fiercely resilient our women are. From the Matriarchs, my two fantastic Grandmothers', they have raised strong, intelligent men and women and continue to do so with their grandchildren every single day. My Grandmothers are both so hands on in my life every single day and for that I am forever grateful. My Mother, although she drives me crazy sometimes, she has taught me kindness, courage, perseverance and to never give up on my dreams, which carries me through every single day knowing that I have her support no matter what. She is always at the end of the phone with a reassuring word when I need it the most. My Aunts... aka my backbone, they are right there behind me every step of the way cheering me on from the sidelines. Every single one of them is there to pick me up when I fall, or to lift me up when I have been successful. They each have different stories and offer different life experiences and continue to teach me about life through their eyes. To my amazing cousins this includes all of the girlfriends too ;) To my female cousins that are my same age Shannon, Grace and Kelly you each inspire me in so many ways, your strength and friendships are always a guiding light through life. There is no one I have more fun with than you guys. To my little smally cousins Emma and Lucy, I hope one day that you read this and know how loved you are by me and know that I will be in your corner always cheering you on, I hope I can be someone that you will look up to, the same way I have had so many strong women to look up to. To all of my families girlfriends and partners your places within our families are indisputable, they have all done such a wonderful job finding such incredibly strong women like you. I can't wait to be a part of all of your journeys and see where life takes you. To my friends, it is safe to say your unwavering support, love, encouragement and laughter does not go unnoticed or unappreciated, you each hold a very special place in my heart and life and you all know who you are. To all of the women who have supported me thus far, to the amazing women in Erik's family, (he too comes from a long line of strong women that have been so incredible to me every step of the way), to my dad's girlfriend Odette who is always offering words of love and encouragement, to the mothers of my friends and the friends of my mother, to the teachers I have encountered, the lecturers, the women in positions of power that have given me a chance to share my voice and my story and those who have given me a platform to speak from, I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for your belief and words of encouragement. To all of my wonderful readers thank you for embarking on this journey with me and for listening to what I have to say, for offering your guidance when I need it and accepting my guidance when you need it. Finally, last but not least to my sister Holly, although we sometimes kill each other our bond is unbreakable. We have been through absolutely everything together and that is the way we will continue to go through the rest of our lives, I promise to share your burden the way you have always shared mine and to inspire you the way you have always inspired me.
I know this post isn't usually what I write about here at robynjoygriffin.com but in a sense it is exactly what my site is all about. I want to support other people on their journeys with their skin and lives, I wish to offer guidance in the small ways that I can and empower other women in any way that I can so that they can look and feel like their best self. Without the support of women I wouldn't be here today and I want each and everyone of them to know that and feel loved and appreciated today and every other day too.
All my Love,
